Couples are often taught scripts. Use "I" statements. Do not raise your voice. Repeat back what you heard.

These are useful. They are not sufficient.

Communication reveals the condition of the heart. Under pressure, technique collapses and condition speaks. Contempt finds a polite sentence. Fear finds silence. Pride finds a well-argued paragraph.

The Blueprint approach to communication begins earlier than the conversation: with listening before reacting, with the willingness to be corrected, with the courage to communicate truth with love rather than choosing one and abandoning the other.

Repair matters more than perfection. A relationship does not become stronger than the quality of truth, listening, understanding, and repair operating within it.
